Bussell Highway Water Main Replacement

Project Name: Bussell Highway 150MM Water Main Replacement

Location: Busselton, Narambeen, West Australia

Client: Busselton Water

Project Type: Drainage/Underground Installations/Traffic Management

Leeuwin Civil was engaged to install a new 150mm PVC water main to replace the old existing 150mm AC pipe for the Busselton Water Board. Works were located alongside the highly trafficked Bussell Highway with a high proportion of commercial properties requiring customer access and egress to the road network.

Works were performed in two stages. The first stage was the installation of a 390 metre (approx) water main and the second stage a 320 metre (approx) water main. Full traffic management was in place with lane closures whilst works were on going. However, ensuring everyday access to commercial businesses along the Bussell Highway was a priority.

To achieve this, small hand-held boring equipment was used for excavations, which reduced the footprint, keeping driveways clear and preventing any of those driveways being excavated, (which would have then led to the need for reinstatement works). This solution recommended by Leeuwin Civil was very well received by both the Client and local business owners.

Scope of Works:

  • removal of old 150mm AC pipe;
  • installation of new 150mm PVC pipe (totalling 710m approx); and
  • installation and testing of new water meters.
